Although there are many ways to create a great recording with Panopto, we wanted to pass along five lesser-known tips to ensure a successful recording.

1.  Make sure the disk drive on your capture computer has been defragmented recently. A heavily fragmented drive can interfere with the Panopto recorders ability to successfully write to the disk drive. See here for instructions: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314848

2.   If you are running an antivirus application, be sure to exclude the recording directory (i.e. c:\panoptorecorder) and the recorder.exe service from being real-time scanned.

3.  Always record to tape. We realize that, depending on your specific hardware, that this may not always be possible. But, if you are using a camcorder that accepts miniDV tapes, we strongly recommend that you record in parallel to tape. Most of the time, you won’t need it, but having another backup never hurts.

4.  Check CPU usage on capture computer. If you find that your CPU usage is very high when you are recording, you should be sure to close any other running applications that you don’t need (i.e. Outlook, Internet Explorer, Instant Messanger,…etc)

5.  Always check for the newest drivers for your recording devices (USB cameras, USB microphones, A/V capture cards,..etc)
