About Editing

Editing provides session creators with a means of re-purposing or "cleaning up" recorded presentations.  Multiple edits can be created from a session, each containing a distinct edit of the source material.  A separate URL is created with only the desired content.  These can be edited or deleted at any time, without affecting the original recording or other deliveries.

The editing process may be performed from any Windows computer with a broadband network connection.  While editing, the user may choose which sections of the video will be included in the edit and which ones will be removed.  The CourseCast Editor provides several tools for choosing this content, as demonstrated in the screenshots in the next section.

How-To Video:  Editing Overview

Editing a Session

To begin, open the Panopto Recorder and go to the Recording Status Tab.

From this page, there are two options: Click "Edit My Recordings" which will allows you to pick and choose the folder/session or clicking "Edit" next to already created session. Clicking edit next to an already created session takes you directly to edit options for that recording. The below documentation assumes that the "Edit My Recordings" option is being used.

Select the class/folder and then the lecture/session you wish to edit.

The Panopto Editor lets you create multiple versions, called "edits", of recorded sessions.

The edit called "default" is created automatically, and contains the entire recording. You can modify "default" or create additional edits without affecting the original session content.

If you want to create a new edit click on "Create New..." and give your new edit a name.

If you check the “Preview selected segments” box the individual Segments can be viewed. (Note: when this is selected, you will ONLY see the segments you’ve created).

Segments can easily be merged together by dragging the caret symbol to the Left or Right.

If you Right-Click on an individual Segment there are additional options.

Seek to Beginning – Takes you to the beginning of the selected Segment.
Seek to End – Takes you to the end of the selected Segment.
Delete - Deletes the selected Segment.
Edit – Allows you to fine tune your Segment.

The edit is named Default automatically. If you are planning to only have one edit, it’s recommended to leave it named Default. Additional deliveries could be necessary for showing a particular section of a lecture/presentation.

Select Save and Quit.

Multiple Edits

** Each new edit creates a new unique URL**

It may be necessary to break a presentation up into multiple sessions. For example you may want to break presentation up by presenter or even topic. Because CourseCast employs non-destructive editing the original source video is never altered.

To create a new edit, click on "Create new..."

When asked for an edit name, type in a name for your new edit, then click create.
