What does a drop box do exactly? Essentially, enabling a drop box on a folder grants Viewers an extra ability; they can record and submit content to a designated folder without being able to view or edit other user's sessions.

  • If you are an administrator, follow the steps listed under the first heading in the article.
  • If you are a viewer, please scroll down to the section labeled "Using drop box as a Viewer" or click the section drop box at the top left of the article.

Using drop box as an Administrator:

Step 1.)

To give users access to a drop box function, they must first be added as a viewer to the parent folder. This is the folder that you would like them to be able to record content to.

Right click on the selected folder and click Share.

Step 2.)

Add users to the folder by typing in their name or username in the Add People section.

In this picture, we already have added a few viewers to the folder. Viewers can only add sessions to the drop box if they are added to this shared list.

Once they are found, either click the name or hit enter to add the viewer to the access list. You can add multiple viewers to the access list using this method.

You can send an email with an attached message as usual.

Click the "Share" button to add the selected user/users to the access list.

Verify that the user has been added by looking at the access list.

Step 3.)

Next, go to the info tab of this folder by right clicking on the folder name in the main interface. This is found right above the "Share" tab that we just clicked.. You could also click the "Info" tab if you are still looking at the window from the previous step. In this example we are back at the main interface under the folder view.

Step 4.)

Under the info tab you will see a button labeled  "Create Drop Box."  Click this button

The following change will happen to verify the drop box has been created.

Also, on the main interface page, you will see that a new folder has been created with the word "[drop box]" added to the end.

Now, viewers that are shared to the original "MWF 10:00 A.M." will be able to add content to the newly created [drop box] folder.

As a viewer with drop box privileges, you may login to your organization's Panopto server and download the recorder. Please go to http://support.panopto.com/documentation/recording/windows-recorder/focus-41-recorder-installation if you need assistance with this process.

Step 1.)

Login to the Panopto Recorder.

Step 2.)

Click on the large arrow button to select the folder you wish to record to. In this instance, the user "BradleyTD" was given access to "MWF 10:00 A.M." so he will see the associated [drop box] folder under his choices. Click "Add New Session" when this is finished.
