Installing the Windows Recorder

This document will walk you through installation of the Panopto for Windows.  The software can be run on any computer with Windows 7 and higher with the biggest consideration being given to having plenty of hard drive space available for long sessions.

If you've already installed the recorder and you only need to do the configuration, Recorder Configuration

System Requirements

Operating System
Panopto for Windows: Windows 7 and above (32 and 64 bit)
.NET 4.5.2 is required for versions 5.2+
Standard Quality: Intel i3 recommended
High or Ultra Quality: Intel i7 (4-core) recommended
Standard Quality: 135MB per hour
High Quality: 540MB per hour
Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 and above (only if recording presentations)
Anti-virus Exclusions
The following folders must be excluded from anti-virus scans:
Panopto installation directory (Default: C:\Program Files (x86)\Panopto or C:\Program Files\Panopto)
Panopto recording directory (Default: C:\PanoptoRecorder)
Video Devices Supported
USB webcams, DV/CAT5/analog camcorders
HDMI and VGA capture devices
Analog video devices that output S-Video or composite AV
Digital pen tablets and white boards
Audio Devices Supported
Wired and wireless microphones (using the computer’s mic jack)
USB audio devices (such as the Blue Yeti USB or component to USB)
Audio devices that use a PC AV capture card


Step 1.)  Login to your Panopto web interface.

Step 2a.) You can download Panopto for Windows by clicking on the green Create button and choosing "Record a new session".

Step 2b.) You could also click this button as well, located in the top right of the sessions page.

Both options will show a popup that will allow you to download the Panopto for your operating system.

Step 3.) Locate PanoptoRecorder.exe that you've downloaded and run the application

Step 4.) The installer will self extract and begin the installation.

Step 5.) Select a destination folder to install the recorder to. Where you would like your recordings saved, and the URL (without http) of your Panopto server. Click Next.

Step 6.) Click Install and the installation will begin.

Step 7.) Once Panopto for Windows is installed you will be able to open the software. Login using the proper Sever Address, Username and Password. (This information can be obtained from a Panopto Administrator at your organization).

Step 7b.) You can pass your credentials via Web Launch by clicking the Create Button.
